A nurse must be updated with his/her field of work.Information resources that are available and accessible by nurses which can help them in their profession.these resources help nurses to be updated with new researches publish, and increase knowledge and skill.

But when using this resources we must make sure that. first, updated and current, reliable, and good editorial review. One of the most useful resources for accessing information about current practice is the journal literature.For me, Journal Literature did really help me because every week in school we are asked to make an essay of journal literature we have read. Every time i read Journal Literature it really boost the knowledge you’ve got and i was amazed of the information i get from reading it.

In my opinion, it also less hassle because they don’t need to carry books just to get the information needed because they can use computer, internet and other technology to search the desired information they wanted. It is convenient

For nursing students, Learning doesn’t stop after you graduated from the course.one of the most important obligations a nurse must meet is to maintain currency in her or his field of practice. the resources doesn’t only boost the knowledge of nurses  it also helps them to be more confident in handling and educating their patient about their health. Every day new research are publish make it a habit to read at least 2-3 researches.just like I quote I’ve read “The more that you read, the more things you will know. the more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.- Dr. Seuss” the computer and internet is good helping hand for us to be able to access information we needed.

 

Computer Use in Nursing Research

We always heard that computer programs and other technologies  are a big help in doing researches. it can be used to facilitate research design planning and data collection, as well as provide the context for a research study. Wordprocessing, spreadsheet, and database programs can be applied to plan the study. just imagined how will the researcher performs their research without these tools it will take ages to finished it. and also,  Wordprocessing softwares can help in creating documents,graphs,tables and as well as PowerPoint presentation.

Computer programs, and other technologies can also be used to both create and/or implement a research instrument in both quantitative and qualitative research. One of the most profound influences that technology has had on research is in data analysis applications. like guys literally hundreds of hours can be saved by using the appropriate analysis software like what i said before this make the researchers jobs became easier and faster in both quantitative and qualitative research. More rigorous testing can be achieved plus a huge reduction in analyst error. it helps researcher to be more organize in their work.

In our world, technology helps in advancing our work not just for researchers but to all of us.like for example without the printer we need to write the report piece by piece, and communication to other people was easy unlike before we need to wait for days for the letter to arrive in our home from our loved ones, now we are too able to contact whenever we like. but we should use the technology for good.

Innovations in Telehealth

What if patients could get care anytime from the comfort of home? Telehealth allows patients to connect to healthcare providers via phone or a webcam to discuss their medical concerns and receive guidance on what they should do including going to an all-night pharmacy to pick up a prescription or checking to make sure symptoms do not worsen before seeing a doctor in-person for follow-up care. We always see this scene in TV shows right where people use to seek medical advise.

Telehealth can benefit those who suffer from long-term conditions because it can reduce the chances of being admitted to the hospital and they become responsible of their own care but first, we must train people on how to use the telehealth equipment.

wouldn’t that be great if people are able to get the medical  service and care by the use of this technology. they don’t need to go out and seek medical advice instead they can can communicate the health care providers in the comforts of their home.People with limited of time to go to clinic or hospital this are convenient to their busy schedule. they can use their smartphones to communicate to healthcare information through phone calls and messages

This really a big advantage for those who work full-time because they are able to provide for their family and at the same time they are able to take classes. it is like killing two birds in one stone.

this is also a big help for those who lived far and doesn’t have any Nursing School nearby. This students are able to fulfill the profession they wanted for the future and they can save money since Distance learning does not require commuting. This saves you money and time that you’d otherwise spend on travel back and forth to school. and one of its good qualities is that students under this program can complete the classes at their convenience. As improved television, telephone, and Internet technologies become available and affordable, these barriers can be eliminated.

Distance education has proved to be an effective delivery system for nursing education. Studies comparing distance education with traditional classroom experiences find that academic achievement, socialization, and mentoring opportunities are comparable or improved by using distance education. In addition, students report satisfaction with learning at a distance, probably because of the convenience of being able to take courses at their chosen time and place.

But, we must remember that distance education is not for everyone and must make careful choices about using distance education technologies.

The Nursing Curriculum in the Information Age

We have to admit that technology are a great help in improving the lecturers in giving class discussion. it helps nursing students to be more active in classes and it is a big help in developing their skills that they will be using in the future. it makes students to understand the classes rather than always talking and writing it down to the board.

Computer technologies have opened the door to many new teaching approaches for nurse educators. However, the challenges facing faculty who did not ‘grow up’ in the computer age continue to be a focus of concern.the need to bridge the gap among the generations of educators and learners is critical. Programs to prepare faculty to gain the requisite knowledge and experience needed for implementing technology as a teaching strategy must be developed.

we all know that the technology has both changed and invaded our lives. It has transformed the way we communicate, travel, eat and shop. It affects everything from how we wake to how we work to how we sleep – and how we learn.Thus, it should come as no surprise that technology has worked its way into nursing education. integrating it in our curriculum would be nice since it  boost our learning.

I read about it. it is one of the application areas of the consumers use in computer for health. they have application that are used by consumers who are interested also some application offer advice and follow-up depending of the information entered. with the rapid growth of technology available to consumer.patient decision aids and computer-based  health intervention are now a more common part in medical field.

I also happen to read about Clinical decision support.the Clinical Decision Support provides timely information usually at the point of care, to help inform decisions about a patient’s care. Clinical decision support can effectively improve patient outcomes and lead to higher-quality health care. the purpose of CDS is to provide timely information to clinicians, patient, and to other about health care decisions. it has tools that  are created for particular condition or types of patients and recommendation that can provide information that relevant to particular patients, reminders for preventive care, and alerts about potentially dangerous situations.

the CDS can also reduce the patient inconvenience since they can use computers in seeking medical advises. the consumers can stay in the comfort of their home without going to the clinic and hospitals. the CDS can used in different devices like personal computer,smartphones and etc.

the research studies have shown that access to health information can enable the patient to be more active participant in the treatment process,that leads to better medical outcomes. patient reports that they want to be informed about their medical condition , and the process of sharing information enhances the doctor-patient relationship.

Consumer and Patient Use of Computers for Health

The People nowadays use the internet to search for information because its fast, easy to use and always available. they are able to discern the accuracy and reliability of the content by searching multiple sites and finding the commonality in the content. even I used it to read articles for reports and to gather the information needed. you know what they say you need to be ready at all times.

they are websites dedicated in promoting health and educating the people of information that can help them to protect themselves from all sorts of sickness. by the use of the internet the access of  information was easy.

communication to other people also became easier of exchanging and sharing of information about the latest research, treatment and clinical trials. being able to communicate with one’s health provider without going to the clinic. i have read that consumers can buy a personal health record application and they can write and store their record. because of the advancement of the technology getting information became easier unlike before that we need to read books to get the information we need, but now all we needed to do is to type and click and all information will come out.

There are issues facing the Consumer and Patient Use of Computers for Health.first, the unreliability of the source because there no quality control on the content of health information in the internet. Second, educational and cultural barriers, factors such literacy, language differences and cultural background are barriers. it is accepted that with low-literacy will also have low health literacy because there is terminology which are hard to understand therefore, the information that they’ve acquired will be useless if they don’t get the point. Third, the Physical and cognitive disabilities because some of them are having difficulty in using the internet. their disability makes it hard for them to use the internet. For elderly people, their vision is getting bad, and they have longer reaction times and they easily forgets.

we need to always remember that not all in the internet are reliable. we need to make sure that the information that we get are reliable, timely and came from a good source. Be wise and responsible.

 

Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery

One problem of healthcare is the collecting and restoring the date they’ve gathered. Data mining, a step in the process of Knowledge Discovery in Databases, is a method of unearthing information from large data sets. Built upon statistical analysis, artificial intelligence, and machine learning technologies, data mining can analyze massive amounts of data and provide useful and interesting information about patterns and relationships that exist within the data that might otherwise be missed

I think we really need something like this especially in large amount of data that are collected it.this strategy can be helpful in improving the quality of decision-making of the clinicians and nurses. Data mining can be an important tool in development of nursing knowledge and knowledge structure. the collected data must turned into a useful information and knowledge. Relationships and patterns within this data could provide new medical knowledge. Unfortunately, few methodologies have been developed and applied to discover this hidden knowledge.   While technological advancements in the form of computer-based patient record software and personal computer hardware are making the collection of and access to health care data more manageable, few tools exist to evaluate and analyze this clinical data after it has been captured and stored. i realized that we have the tools for collecting and managing data but we don’t have a tool we can use to evaluate and analyze.  I also read that the  evaluation of this stored data my lead to discovery of new trends and patterns hidden within the data  that could enhance our understanding of disease progression.

this can really improve the nurses knowledge because we can extract new information from the gathered  data which can be used in the nursing practice.

The Impact of Evidenced-based Practice in nursing has influenced the nursing practice, education, and science. Provides an approach to coping with the constantly changing knowledge base about the works best in healthcare. Also for me, nurses should be updated with the new releases of evidenced-based practices that researches published this helps them broaden their knowledge, acquire new skills and instrument for promoting quality of care that can be used in their work.Through the computers, we are able to access different evidenced-based researches and we can easily read it.

Clinical Practice Guidelines Clinical practice guidelines are statements that include recommendations intended to optimize patient care that are informed by a systematic review of evidence and an assessment of the benefits and harms of alternative care options.

Guidelines are defined as quality tools because when implemented effectively, they promote patient outcomes and reduce to outcome variations. the effect of the guideline is that it has a potential to improve the quality of care butability of a guideline to improve the quality care depends on what evidence is incorporated with the guidance and the implementation of that guidelines into practice.

What is Implementation? is applying the textual information to real situations and the active employment of a guideline to promote effective and efficient care in order to improve patient outcomes.

the automated tools are the most powerful resources available to facilitate the guideline and implementation. Nurses must have the proper knowledge on using this automated tools such as the use of specific guidelines in order to improve the outcomes of quality nursing care to the patients . computers perform all kinds of work which can help in storing and retrieving files,communicating among health care providers,and Computers provide a means for integrating guidelines with clinical information about effectiveness and outcomes. In short computer makes it easier for health care provider and patients to use, communicate and access.

the computers are not only useful to health care providers but to all of us. It is up to us on how we used the technology around us but we should put it to good use ^___^

Administrative Applications of Information Technology for Nursing Managers

Fewer students are taking up Nursing School. therefore, we have shortage of nurses in our hospital.years from now those working registered nurses will get old and retired and there’s no one to replace them in their place.sad to say there is no simple solution for this problem. We must approach the problem from all direction.

Nurse Manager– nurses who hold an administrative position at the nurse manager level are responsible for:Implementing the philosophy, goals, and standards.Implementing clinical nursing services,Planning, organizing, implementing and controlling care.

we have three major issues:

• the nursing shortage
• increased demand for Patient safety
• the need for visibility

how will the administrative application of nursing informatics for nurse managers help? In hospital nurses took hours of making the paperwork of each patient which is really disturbing. The Nursing Informatics has a lot to offer this could to save time that could help in giving the care and safety that patients needs. the nurse managers can use the system in collecting the data needed in planning,reporting and budgeting.

For me, we should really use it, because we need every help we could get in order  to give the quality of care and to ensure the patient’s safety.this give us a hand in speeding up our work.For example,like when we are doing this all sorts of paper work for the patient by the use the informatics it will only take a short time to do it. instead using hours in doing it we could use it to utilize our time to give good service to our patient. its like killing two birds in one stone. we are free from paperwork and we also give the quality of care that the patient deserves.
